FRESNO COUNTY — Thursday, October 22, 2026, 6:05 p.m. PDT update. The National Weather Service in Hanford reported a Flash Flood Warning for central Fresno County during Thursday afternoon. The warned area included Five Points and Cantua Creek in the western San Joaquin Valley, rather than every neighborhood of the city of Fresno.

Rainfall reached 1 to 3 inches in the warning area

At 3:47 p.m., NWS said Doppler radar and automatic gauges detected thunderstorms with between one and three inches of rain across the warned area, with additional rainfall possible. Flash flooding was described as ongoing or expected shortly. Officials flagged low-lying locations, small streams, streets, underpasses and poor-drainage areas.

Important new 6:05 p.m. update

At 6:05 p.m. PDT, NWS issued an expiration statement: the heavy rain had ended, and flooding was no longer expected to pose a threat in the warned area. The warning was set to expire at 6:15 p.m. NWS added an important instruction: continue to heed any remaining road closures.

California58 therefore is not reporting this as a new, still-expanding flash-flood emergency after 6:05 p.m. The alert was a significant event that occurred earlier on October 22, but subsequent official information lowered the immediate reported threat. A closed road may stay closed even after its warning expires.

Which places does this story cover?

The warning identified central Fresno County including Five Points and Cantua Creek. This article is carried by Fresno News for countywide public information, and readers in communities such as Mendota and Coalinga should not assume that the same rainfall totals or flooding were documented on their street.

Where to verify roads and later warnings

Check current NWS alerts, Caltrans QuickMap for state highways and Fresno County public works or sheriff announcements for local closures. Avoid entering muddy or water-covered roads, and do not move official barricades. This is a dated update, not a real-time camera or road-condition guarantee.

Reporting note: NWS alerts may expire or change. Rainfall estimates are those provided by the issuing forecasters, not on-the-ground measurements by California58. Never attempt to drive across a flooded roadway. California58 does not claim an unverified local road closure or that an entire town is flooded.
